Research & Academics

PhD degree in Law (UW).

Assistant Professor at the Institute of Legal Sciences, Academy of Justice.

I hold a PhD degree in Law (University of Warsaw). I am an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Legal Sciences, Academy of Justice. I passed the Bar Exam at the Warsaw Bar Association.

I had never planned a career in either research nor academics. As time passed, both became a perfect fit. I have never stopped learning. I read, listen, watch, search and explore. I am interested, curious of the world and eager to know more. I look for solutions to complicated legal problems and ways of improving legal regulations. I love sharing my knowledge and experience, helping, assisting, supporting, teaching, motivating, inspiring, arousing curiosity and provoking discussion… One of my professors used to described me as ‘intellectually disobedient’ and I’m afraid he might have been right!

In 2008, I defended – with a very good result – my master thesis in Public International Law titled The Principle of Non-Intervention in the Domestic Affairs of States in the Modern International Law.

I was strongly interested in criminal aspects of international law and international aspects of criminal law, finding myself right in between these two branches of law.

Since 2013, I had been conducting scientific, research and teaching activity at the Department of Criminal Law, Faculty of Law, University of Bialystok. Between 2017 and 2019 I held the position of a Research and Teaching Assistant.

But it was the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw, the best Law Faculty in the country, that welcomed me with my research topic and made it possible for me to prepare my doctoral dissertation titled Treaty-based Crimes in the Polish Penal Law. In 2020 I defended the doctoral dissertation with honors at the Institute of International Law, Faculty of Law and Administration, University of Warsaw.

Since 2022, I have been an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Legal Sciences, Academy of Justice.

As I, myself, am truly interdisciplinary, the same applies to my research. I combined my interest in international and criminal law, with passion for international relations and foreign policy, deep interest in international security issues and criminological approach to transnational and organized crime.

As a result of my research on organ trafficking, I became interested in medical law, in particular donation and transplantation. My comparative research in this area continues and I support our transplantation community, providing advice on the most pressing legal issues concerning donation and transplantation, looking for ways to extend the donor pool.

Additionally, being a translator and interpreter, I have been vividly interested in good practices, the status of translators and interpreters in different legal regimes, and the right to their assistance in the criminal procedure.

In 2014, I successfully completed the School of Comparative US-EU Law, approved by the American Bar Association, conducted by Michigan State University, College of Law in cooperation with University of Bialystok, Faculty of Law.

Also in 2014, I successfully completed the course in mediation in the Polish Center of Mediation.

In 2015, during my scholarship at the University of Eastern Finland, I successfully completed International Study Program in Law at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Business Studies. My research focused on: Nordic Criminal Law, International Criminal Law and Law of Criminal Procedure, Basic Concepts of Criminal Law, The Finnish Legal System, as well as Intellectual Property Rights and International Trade.

In 2015, I received a scholarship from the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, Northeastern University in Boston (USA), which I successfully completed in 2016 (receiving A-grades). My research focused on: White-Collar Crime, Virtual Currency Crimes, as well as International Security.

In 2017, I successfully completed the Advocacy Academy – an intensive training program in professional legal skills, given by qualified British barristers and academics, provided by the Institute of Advanced Legal Skills, co-funded by the Justice Program of the European Union.

Also in 2017, I successfully completed the Introduction to International Criminal Law course, authorized by Case Western University (USA), led by Professor Michael Scharf, unquestionable authority in the ICL area; as well as International Law in Action: A Guide to the International Courts and Tribunals in The Hague course, authorized by Universiteit Leiden, led by Professor Larissa van den Herik, Professor Yannick Radi and Assistant Professor Cecily Rose.

Through years, I have taken part in a great number of conferences, workshops and debates, domestic and international (e.g. The Annual Meetings of the American Society of Criminology, 20th International Conference on International Criminal Law, The Nordic Workshop in Criminal Law, Uluslararsi Sağlık Hukuku Kongresi, Uluslararasi “Gen Hukuku” Sempozyumu, New Tasks for Legal Interpreters and Translators in the Enlarged Europe, Modern Faces of Security), often receiving awards for my presentations.

I am a member of the Polish Platform for Homeland Security, Polish Society of Criminology named after professor Stanislaw Batawia, as well as Amnesty International
